Careers Blog – Well, Sort Of….

Let me be honest – I’m no careers expert. I do not work in HR and I sort of stumbled upon my own career (albeit with a lot of hard work, some good fortune and determination). I was fortunate enough to start working for a small growing agency in which I was given every opportunity to enhance my own skills and position within the company. I’ve been there since 2009 and in that time have learnt loads – not just about content marketing and SEO, but about dealing with clients, employees and morale. I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with some great entry level candidates and have developed a good idea of what skills are valuable in the industry and what it takes to progress here.

I never set out to be in SEO. Originally, I wanted to be a screenwriter or an interpreter. Random, I know.

So, I call this my careers blog, but don’t come here looking for a qualified careers advisor. It isn’t me. I’m no professional – but I am passionate about what people can achieve when they set their minds to it. And here I share thoughts on careers and advice for those looking to get started on a career in digital marketing specifically.

If you, on the other hand, are more of an expert in the field than I am and would like to share your knowledge, then I’d love to have you write here. Give me a shout over on Twitter if you fancy writing here.

Problem Solving – Hugely Valuable and Relatively Rare

There are characteristics some people naturally just have. You can train skills. You can teach theory. You can share knowledge. But you cannot instil beliefs or fundamental character traits in people. We often refer to “problem solving,” as a skill. I don’t…
