Sketchman for iPhone app review

App Obsession of the Week: Sketchman

I’m a sucker for those ‘just-keep-running-as-far-as-you-can-and-don’t-get-munched-by-any-baddies-or-fall-down-any-holes-or-trip-over-any-bad-shit’ games. You know the sort… Canabalt, Temple Run and Subway Surf would be recent examples. I’m also a sucker for rough, sketch like graphics (Doodle Jump!). So it almost feels as though Miniclip and Zionplay have come together to make Sketchman especially for me.

It really is very similar to Canabalt – you are constantly moving and you have to get as far as you can. You’re armed with a gun (a weapon that you can upgrade as you progress through the game and collect coins with which to buy goodies in the shop). You’ve a ton of obstacles and some weird stick men wearing jet packs who want to shoot you from time to time. You have to jump, fly, glide, run and shoot your way to survival.

It’s made a little more interesting with missions (much like Subway Surf). Missions let you speed up the rate at which you collect coins, with completion of some being worth thousands of coins. Of course, if working for your coins doesn’t float your boat, you can buy them through in app purchase. Not my bag, though… feels like cheating.

It’s a Gamecenter game too, so allows for some competition with your buddies.

The Good

  • Addictive
  • Very quirky graphics
  • Easy to get to grips with
  • The more you play, the better you get
  • It’s free!

The Bad

  • Some of the missions are near impossible

It’s a cracking game though. Download it from the App Store.
